About

Special Collections & Archives at Queen’s University Belfast provides access to the Library's rare and early printed book, map, and manuscript collections, as well as to more modern material relating to Ireland and Ulster in particular.

Collection level descriptions of many of our collections may be found on RASCAL and on the Archives Hub. Guides to manuscript material available for consultation are available on our Special Collections & Archives webpages.

Selected series from various manuscript collections have been digitised to facilitate access for a wider audience. The digitisation programme for Special Collections & Archives at Queen's is on-going, new material will be added as it becomes available.

All items held in Special Collections are considered to be of lasting research value and include examples of the earliest printed works, and books and pamphlets published between the 16th and early 19th centuries. In order to preserve the material for future readers the collections are housed in a secure and environmentally controlled setting.

The Special Collections Reading Room is located on Floor 1 of the McClay Library. Wireless internet access is available.
